Welcome to Greater Things Today! I am Pastor Phil Ressler. Greater Things serves as my ministry home on the web and is an extension of my work as pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Old Bridge, NJ. Our vision at Good Shepherd is to KNOW Jesus, GROW as his disciples, and to GO out as missionaries into the world. This online ministry is just one way I “go” as missionary into the world.
The mission of Greater Things is rooted in the belief that God is able to accomplish immeasurably more than all we can imagine (see Ephesians 3:20). This site exists to build your faith, help you answer a higher calling, and to help you experience a more fulfilling life. In short, it is about experiencing greater things through a relationship with Jesus Christ. In the words of Jesus, “You will see greater things than these” (John 1:50) Whatever your place in life, there is room from growth. God wants more for you than you currently experience and we want to help you discover that.
The title “Greater Things” is derived from a blog series I did in 2014 called “40 Things to Give up for Lent.” This series went viral on the Internet and was eventually turned into a book that became an Amazon #1 best-seller in the category of Christian Devotions. The reality was that 40 Things was never really about giving things up, it was more about discovering greater things. It encouraged people to give up fear, and replace it with faith. It led people to give up worry, and exchange it for contentment.
I heard from people from all over the world about how this series made a difference in their lives and how it gave them a new perspective for living. This site continues that work and is the next step in the journey. The goal is that this site would develop into an online community to find encouragement.
If you are blessed by the resources at Greater Things and would like to to support this work, please visit our membership page. We are grateful for your support to help make this ministry possible.
On a personal level, I am married to Barbara. I am forever grateful for her love and commitment. In so many ways I feel I could not do this without her. We are blessed with three children, Abby, Thomas, and Jacob. I think they are the most adorable children in the world (most days).
You can also visit me online at philressler.com where I focus on stuff other than ministry – like websites, technology, and family stuff. You can find me on Facebook at facebook.com/philressler or on twitter @PhilRessler. I would love for you to “friend” or “follow” me. Feel free to drop me an email at [email protected].
Another passion of mine is the Haitian Children’s Ministry. This is another ministry of our church which exists to partner with local churches in the United States with orphanages in Haiti. Since we began this ministry, our church has adopted and orphanage and sponsored more than 50 children to provide them with food, clothing, schooling, and other basic needs. We have also led medical and construction mission trips. If you are a church leader and would be interested in how you could get your church involved in this work in Haiti, we would love to talk with you.
